Until we meet again...

It doesn’t seem possible that David’s life on earth could have ended so early.

I met David back in 1990. He was Finance Manager for Hertz UK in Norbury. He was my boss’s boss then. He would ring me, from his office, saying just 4 numbers and expecting an immediate answer about the details of the account. It was sheer panic for me at first. I was new to the job and found David’s accent difficult to decipher! (It’s incredible how much his accent fainted over the years!) But, as true to David, his expectations for his staff to raise to the challenge and deliver perfection made us all gain confidence and motivated us to deliver top quality work. The genuine care for each member of his staff as well as his sense of humour filled the long days in the office with fun and even pleasure! He was a natural leader and his staff adored him. Many of his colleagues became his friends and quite a few of us even attended his wedding. He was an amazing work colleague and an even better friend.

David was kind and caring to everyone. No one was ever forgotten. I remember the whole office descending to the pub, accepting his invitation to celebrate his 30th birthday, and regardless to the dent in his wallet, he was so happy every one had turned up!

It’s cliché but years went by so quickly. I had the privilege to work for David for about 10 years during which I even commuted to Frankfurt! With my career put on hold, we kept in touch with our young children playing together and then the distance and both our busy lives made the get-togethers less frequent. Nevertheless our friendship was deep and we were always so happy when we did meet up!

The best decision David ever made was to marry Mel of course and he will continue to live through his wonderful three children. My heartfelt condolences to all of you, and also to his brothers and entire family.

Thank you David for the 30+ years of your life that I got to know you. You were wonderful at so many things apart from timings... you were so often late and always so apologetic! Now, how could you depart this life so early? To top this bad timing,  the restrictions due to Covid-19 are stopping your family and friends from giving you the funeral that would gather us all and enable us to truly celebrate your life.  This is why I had to share this tribute.  My heart is aching for the loss of you in this life.  Until we meet again ...

May you rest in peace, David! Memory Eternal!
